  • Moderate
  • Mileage: 6.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 800 ft
  • High Point Elevation: 7,050 ft

Please look for an email from the leader the night prior to the trip.  This will go no matter the weather (unless, of course, there are extreme conditions).

Expect snow/ice, scree, steep terrain, exposure, slippery rocks, and obstacles.  This will go unless extreme weather conditions happen.  We will take a few quick stops to change out gear or grab a sip of water (or attend to a fur-companion), until we hit the overlook. Then, we'll enjoy the view att the overlook and a snack before heading back down.

Well-behaved dogs are welcome, but must stay on a leash.

Meet at the Starsmore Discovery Center, 2120 S Cheyenne Cañon Rd, Colorado Springs, CO 80906

Time: 11:00am* (packed up and ready to go)

Details: Park in main lot next to Starsmore center. Meet in front of Starsmore Discovery Center. Head up Lower Columbine trail, part of the Middle Columbine trail, and split off along the new Creekside trail to get to the traditional Mount Cutler trailhead. Hike up the Mount Cutler trailhead up to the overlook at 7,050’ (Mt Culter = 7,200’). Great location to explore, eat a snack and then head back down.

Required Equipment

Bring foot micro-tractions, water, snacks, wind/weather protection, layers, and (of course) your 10 essentials.  Optional items: gators, baclava, hiking poles

Dogs are welcome to come, but must be on leash.  Please consider nature of trail (narrow/icy or scree in places) and weather conditions. If you decide to bring a dog companion, consider bringing: leash, poop bags, water w/ bowl, jackets/paw covers (i.e. boots, shoes) and a ground cover (if snow on trail). You know best of your dog's capabilities; but please contact me (nlt a few days before the trip starts) if you have any questions or concerns.

More than likely, there will be little to no water by trail.
