Trip
Hiking – Newlin Creek
DOG FRIENDLY. Join this casual pace trip in a lovely forest area to an old mill and homestead. The trail follows a creek with many crossings and if we're lucky, spring will be showing some early colors. This out-back trail has a little bit of everything with creek crossings, trees and some interesting history at the end. The trail follows what was -- a long time ago -- the wagon road to the old saw mill and homestead and the trail is generally easy to follow. Hikers can go beyond the mill if they wish to add an additional 3 total miles to the trip by climbing to the top of the canyon where there are good views of Canon City and Florence.

We will meet at the Exxon Convenience Store on the east side of Highway 115 (916 CO-115, Penrose, CO 81240) at 7:50 a.m.
We can arrange car pools to the trailhead at the meeting spot.
We'll start on the trail no later than 8:45 a.m. for those joining us at the trailhead.
The trail has many creek crossings, so please bring trekking poles for a little extra stability and an extra pair of socks just in case your feet get wet.
At the half way point where we'll find an old homestead and mill, we can decide to continue further on the trail another 1.5 miles or turn around. Bring your cameras for some interesting photos of old mill equipment!
