6:00 pm NCAR parking lot, last row in the SW corner by the rear of the bldg.   I'm in a red Tesla.  303.250.6000.  Also, please have your headlamps out and on so we can verify all are prepared.

Early evening hike up Bear Peak arriving in time to watch the sun set at the end of the longest day.  You can bring food to share (no alcohol) at the summit as we exchange stories and rituals and discuss our plans for the New Year.  You are encouraged to share your knowledge and curiosity of the Summer Solstice and what it means to all cultures, past and present.  Brisk pace to start to ensure we summit before 8p.  We will be descending after sunset, so bring headlamps and back-up batteries.  Poles are a good safety item as we will be descending via Fern Canyon which requires full attention on the descent.

If you have not ascended Bear before, please contact me so we can discuss the conditions to be encountered on the descent.

Time:  We will be returning to our cars ~11:00pm and possibly later depending on group consensus and sky viewing opportunities.  You need to be comfortable with hiking after dark on rocky trails.  The initial part of the descent has loose rock/scree cover in sections.
