Hiking – Mt. Rosa

How about a spring hike deep into the Pike National Forest to celebrate the equinox? Mount Rosa may be the high point reached by Zeb Pike when he declared the mountain that bears his name, "unclimbable."

Meet at "the hub" parking lot above Helen Hunt Falls in North Cheyenne Canon Park. http://bit.ly/3S1CDWD in time to start hiking at 8:15 a.m. This spot is about twenty minutes from downtown Colorado Springs. Road through the canon is winding and often icy in the shady spots. Porta-johns are usually available at Helen Hunt Falls, below the meeting place.

Leader will scout the route and report if snow shoes seem warranted. This route will not travel across avalanche terrain. If summit seems unattainable due to time and conditions, we'll find a nice spot to break for lunch and head back in. Spring time in the Rockies is unpredictable so come prepared for winter and spring conditions (rain gear, traction, etc.). Have a fun, safe outing is the goal, not necessarily reaching the top. The first section of this hike is along a closed (to vehicles) portion of Gold Camp road and loose dogs and fast-moving downhill cyclists are hazards to watch out for.
