This will be an eleven plus mile hike, but the total elevation gain could be a modest 2470 feet or a more muscular 4475 feet.
The idea is that you can start at the usual Guanella Pass parking area, climb the usual route to Mount Bierstadt, then descend along the South Ridge all the way to the Abyss Lake Trail Head; this would result in about 2470 feet elevation gain. Or, you can walk the same route but in reverse; this would make about 4475 feet elevation gain. We will have at least one car parked at each end.
