Hiking – Mount Orton

Trip

Hiking – Mount Orton

Leader in Training Hike for Aimee Hunt. We'll carpool to the Sandbeach Lake Trailhead in the Wild Basin area of Rocky Mountain National Park. From here, we'll take a well maintained trial to Sandbeach Lake. If conditions are dry, we'll head around the lake to find a faint trail heading into the woods and up the slope towards Mount Orton. On our way, we may encounter some bushwacking, route finding, a climber's trail up a steep grassy/muddy slope and a few short scrambling sections (easy class 3). The reward for this adventure are great views of Longs, Meeker, Pagoda, Chiefs Head as well as Copeland and Mount Alice from the base and summit of Orton.
