Route description from Gerry Roach's Colorado's Fourteeners guidebook:
"This is the big one. You have looked at it from Leadville for years; now climb it. Start at the Windsor Lake Trailhead at 10,780 feet and climb the North Ridge Route. Descend the Southeast Ridge Route to the Mount Massive Trailhead at 10,050 feet and a prearranged vehicle shuttle. Along the way, you can climb all nine of Massive’s summits, five of which are above 14,000 feet. At the end of this expedition, you will appreciate firsthand that Massive is massive."

This route is mostly off trail, with a long section above 13,000ft. The ridge is mostly class 2 tundra and talus, with one short section of moderately exposed class 3.
