Hiking – MOOve Over to Island in the Sky
Hike the Move Over to Island in the Sky trails in the Oil Well Flats Rec Area outside of Canon City. The out and back hike begins with mostly easy rolling terrain with some areas of moderate gain and ends with a moderately challenging hike on the Island in the Sky trail to the top of a butte affording beautiful views. 10.5 miles, 1385’, Moderate B hike.

Pueblo participants meeting place is TBD. Park in the driveway or in front of the house. Canon City and Colorado Springs participants will meet at the Exxon at 420 Royal Gorge Blvd, Canon City 81212 at 8:15 am. Please plan on using the restroom at the gas station in Canon City prior to the hike as there are no toilets at the trailhead. The hike starts at the trailhead.
Required Equipment
Bring snacks, lunch and 2 liters of water in addition to the other 10 essentials. Wear sunscreen, a hat & gloves and layers including a coat that protects from wind/rain/snow. I'll send an email 2-3 days prior to the hike that provides the place to meet in Pueblo and a weather forecast. There won’t be a traditional celebratory tail gating gathering at the trailhead after the hike. Interested participants can make plans on their own to meet someplace in Canon City after the hike.
