Meet at Cache La Poudre Middle School, 3515 Co Rd 54G, Laporte, CO 80535 @ 0745 for an 0800 departure to Lory State Park. Come to the farthest east parking lot, directly east of the Middle School. We'll work out carpooling at the school. Remember, unless you opted-out your vehicle registration includes a CO state park pass.
We'll be checking out the first hike listed in the CMC's "The Best Front Range Bird Hikes!" This hike is at Lory State Park: Timber Trail to Westridge; back down Timber to Well Gulch; Well Gulch to West Valley; West Valley to the TH.
It's not the best time of year for birds of course (the guide book says late spring/summer is optimal), but this should be a fun hike anyway. Bring binoculars if you have them in case there are still a few birds hanging around.
There's a pretty good elevation gain on this hike, so be prepared. Also, we might get some snow the few days before this outing. These trails can get quite icy in the shade when the snow gets packed down. Pack spikes just in case.
Optional coffee at Oh-Me-Oh-My Coffee shop in Laporte after the outing.
Required Equipment
Ten Essentials. Spikes. Hiking poles recommended. Binoculars if you have them.
