Hiking – Lion Canyon Trail

Hike Lion Canyon on the Oak Creek Grade, south of Canon City. The Southern Front Range Trail Guide calls it “a pleasant forest hike with great views of the Sangre de Christo Mountains from the top”.

We’ll plan on a 1 ½ to 2 mph moving pace, a lunch break at the top and breaks along the way as necessary.  The trail is shady so there is potential for some lingering ice and snow. The trail is used by motorcyclists.

April 19, 2025 -- Pueblo participants will meet at 7:30 am at the intersection South McCulloch Blvd West and Highway 50 in Pueblo West (38°20'31.6"N 104°46'10.6"W). Colorado Springs and other Southern Colorado participants will meet at 8:00 am at the Love’s Travel Stop, 690 Doc Holiday Dr, Cañon City, CO 81212. We will carpool or caravan to trailhead at the Oak Creek Campground, approximately 13 miles south of Canon City off of County Road 143. The hike begins at the trailhead.
