Hiking – Lion Canyon Trail
The Southern Front Range Trail Guide calls Lion Canyon “a pleasant forest hike with great views of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains from the top”. It is rated Moderate, at 6 miles round trip and 1500 feet of elevation gain. The high point is 9160 feet. We’ll plan on a 1 ½ to 2 mph moving pace, a lunch break at the top and breaks along the way as necessary. Well behaved dogs are welcome.

May 25, 2024 -- Pueblo participants will meet at 7 am in the Southeast corner of the Albertson's parking lot at 1601 W. Highway 50, Pueblo, CO 81008. Canon City, Colorado Springs and other Southern Colorado participants will meet at 7:45am at the Alta travel center at 420 Royal Gorge Blvd in Canon City 81212. We will carpool or caravan to trailhead at the Oak Creek Campground, approximately 13 miles south of Canon City off of County Road 143. The hike begins at the trailhead.
Required Equipment
Please bring 2 liters of water, sun protection, rain gear and hiking boots or sturdy shoes in addition to the other 10 essentials.
