Meet at the strip mall parking lot immediately due west from the Loaf and Jug gas station on 1201 W Pueblo Blvd, Pueblo, 81004 for a 6am departure or at the Greenhorn Mountain Road trailhead at 8 am for a 8:15am departure.  Those of you meeting at the trailhead can google Greenhorn Mountain CO 81069 for directions. The hike starts at the trailhead.

The drive to the trailhead starts at the junction of highway 165 and Ophir Rd (CR 360/CR 369).  Ophir Rd is a well maintained washboard dirt road until nearer to the trailhead where it is slower driving over rocks before the road ends at the trailhead parking lot.  An AWD car is suggested.

Greenhorn Mountain's summit provides a spectacular 360-degree views that includes the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, Spanish Peaks, and endless vista of the Great Plains. The travel time from the meeting spot in Pueblo to the trailhead is over 2 hours.

Although the hike is a little over 5 miles and near 1300' gain, the hike is classified as moderately difficult due to high elevation hiking, steady ascent first on trail and then bushwhacking to the summit at 12,347', and descent down a steep slippery talus and tundra slope that joins a trail at the bottom of the mountain that loops back to the trailhead.  Leader permission is required to register for the hike. Preference for registration will be given to El Pueblo and Pikes Peak group members.

Please text me at (702) 480-5704 by Friday, July 26th at 5pm if you would like to go on the hike and where you will meet the group (at Loaf & Jug in Pueblo or the trailhead). I will send an email to registered participants on Saturday, July 27th with details about the hike including the weather forecast.
