  • Mileage: 4.2 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 741 ft
  • High Point Elevation: 9,140 ft
  • Pace: doggie casual (about 1.5- 1.8 mph)

We will meet at 9:00 at the Golden Gate Canyon State Park Visitor Center (at the intersection of Golden Gate Canyon (Hwy 46) and Crawford Gulch Road. At 9:15 we will drive about 1 mile to the vault toilets in the parking lot right before Kriley Pond. Then we will continue on, taking the first right onto Mountain Base Rd, following to the big parking lot on the right.

Note: A state pass is needed to enter the park. If you would prefer to carpool, please contact someone from the roster who lives near you, or contact me at 703-774-6266.

This is a fairly easy trail, and mostly in the trees. We will start (slowly) at the Blue Grouse Trailhead and then take the Mule Deer Trail up to Fraser’s Meadow, where there are remnants of Fraser’s homestead. We’ll find a shady spot near the meadow to have lunch/snack and then return the way we came. Most of the elevation gain is in the first mile, and then the trail levels off through aspen trees. There may be some mosquito activity.

Dogs must be on a six foot leash at all times. The trail is a little narrow at spots and we want to avoid dogs/people getting tangled by longer leads. If your dog is not neutered, please do not bring within two weeks before expected heat, or for two weeks following heat. Please read the CMC Denver Group policy https://cmcdenver.org/groupresources/denver-group-dog-hikes-policy

All are welcome, with or without a dog.
