Hiking – Glacier Peak via Georgia Pass

RMOTHG Members Only (Fully Vaccinated) - Join Jeanne and Frank for this beautiful tundra hike along a broad ridge with amazing views of Mount Guyot, South Park and more. The highpoint (12,854') makes this hike challenging.

  • Moderate
  • Mileage: 5.8 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 1,500 ft
  • High Point Elevation: 12,854 ft
  • Pace: moderate

Morrison PnR (3485 S. Rooney Rd, Morrison).  It's sort of the NW corner of the intersection of C470 and Morrison Road.  It is across from the Phillips 66.

We will meet @ 6:00AM for a 6:10AM departure.

Please bring your face mask for carpooling ($12 for your driver), but also be prepared to drive yourself.  We will drive from Jefferson on a well graded dirt road to the pass, although I would recommend a high clearance vehicle, AWD is good enough.

Georgia Pass is 16 miles northwest of Jefferson.  Jefferson is 4.4 miles from Kenosha Pass on US285.

YOU MUST BE A STRONG B HIKER, ABLE TO HIKE DOWN FAST IF WEATHER IS MOVING IN AS THIS HIKE IS MOSTLY ABOVE TREELINE!!!

Join Jeanne and Frank for this is a beautiful tundra hike: 5.8 miles out-and-back, +1,500' elevation gain, 11,585-12,854ft elevation range. The first 0.75 miles is along a forested 4WD road, which may have traffic, especially on the way back, but it's easy to get over and even on a Saturday scout there were maybe 3 vehicles.  After passing through an opening in a large wooden fence, we will hike on a broad tundra ridge with continuous views that just keep getting better as we hike.  The most dominant views are of Mt. Guyot and a particularly beautiful view of South Park.  There will also be distant views of the Ten Mile Range, Breckenridge, Gore Range, Grays and Torreys Peaks.  We will climb a few false summits, the last one is quite steep and the first one had a ton of Purple Harebell Flowers on it on August 13th.

The pace will be CASUAL on the way up and MODERATE on the way down.

Email Jeanne concerning any pertinent medical conditions:  do you carry an epi pen, have asthma, diabetes, or any other conditions I need to know about???

Jeanne will send out a pre-hike email by late afternoon Tuesday.

Do not hesitate to email Jeanne with any and all questions, I'd love to hear from you!!!
