Trip
Hiking – Fremont Experimental Forest via Barr Trail
Rescheduled from Feb. 11. Let's hike up Barr Trail to the ruins of an old forest service research station. After a strenuous 3.5 miles up, we'll break for food and drink, then explore the area and learn a bit of its history. If time, weather and group consensus allow, we may add a couple extra miles by looping back into Barr Trail via Bob's Road.

Barr Trail Parking lot, near the Manitou Incline and above the Cog Railroad Station. Cost has gone up to $22.50 per car per day. Information about carpooling/shuttle to follow. We'll start hiking at 8:30 and if you want to share parking costs, meet the leader at 8:00 at the Westside Safeway, on Colorado Ave., just east of Manitou Springs.
Barr Trail is busy with downhill traffic off the Incline so be heads up for runners. Bring a thermos with something warm to drink. If you prefer to get communication via text, let me know with a text to 719.650.3043.
Required Equipment
Expect Barr Trail to be icy so bring traction and, if you use them, poles. There will be some off trail scrambling so gaiters are recommended as well.
