Hiking – Elephant Butte + Alderfer/Three Sisters

Description: RMOTHG Section: We'll take a loop route around Alderfer/Three Sister Park, sampling some of the park's highlights, including a spur trail to the top of Elephant Butte. Our CCW loop will include circling Brother's Lookout, ascending through the saddle between the Three Sisters North and Middle Peaks, finding our way to the summit of Elephant Butte and skirting the Elephant Park Twin Knobs.

Route: Our hike will begin at the Alderfer/Three Sisters Park - West Summit Trail Parking Lot. This CCW loop will utlize the following trails: Silver Fox, Ponderosa, Sisters, Bearberry, Mountain Muhly, Elephant Butte, and Bluebird Meadow trails, so we'll need to keep a close eye on the map as we make our way around the park. (We may need to alter this route depending upon West side trail closures.) Once we achieve the summit of Elephant Butte we'll find a comfortable spot for lunch/snack. We'll complete the loop and return to our cars. This hike is ~7.5 miles and ~1700 ft elevation gain. Our pace will be comfortable for all group members. (Elephant Butte - CalTopo)
