Hiking – Echo Lake Park - Chicago and Summit Lakes Trail

Summit Lake nestles at the bottom of a high alpine cirque about 1500 feet below the summit of Mount Evans. Starting from the Echo Lake Trailhead we will follow the Chicago Lakes trail to the Upper Chicago Lakes then continue up a steep marmot-infested pass to Summit Lake.

Wooly Mammoth Park-N-Ride (Google Maps) section BB. Meet at 6:30 am for a departure no later than 6:45 am.

This hike involves lots of elevation gain, some basic class 2 scrambling, and hiking up a steep pass to almost 13,000 feet.

From the Echo Lake Trailhead take the Chicago Lakes Trail (USFS #52) south to the Summit Lake Trail. Continue south up the pass to Summit Lake. Return the way we came.
