Great easy to moderate loop hike in an amazing landscape that is part of the Canyon of the Ancients. Well defined trails and opportunities to view prehistoric cliff dwellings and other ruins.

ATTENTION: There is no water at the trailhead. This is desert hiking. Come prepared with sunscreen, appropriate clothing, and a hat. Hikers should bring their own water for hike and more water for before and after the hike. All hikers should bring the 10 essentials.

The trail, while mostly smooth, can be uneven at times with small to medium size rocks and boulders to navigate. A hiking pole or stick might prove helpful. 

We'll meet at the Sand Canyon Trail Trailhead just west of Cortez at 8:30am. Please be ready to hike by 9:00am. We hope to carpool from Durango. Details TBD. 

From Durango, follow US 160 west for 27 miles, to Colorado 184 in Mancos. Continue west on US 160, and pass through the town of Cortez. on the west side of Cortez, turn right on County Road G, also known as Airport Road. Follow this road for 12.6 miles tothe open slickrock parking lot on the right. There are two parking lots on the right, we'll meet at the second one which has a trail head sign and portable restroom. The parking lot is clearly marked.
