Hiking – East Bear to Stultz/Tanner Trail
An exploratory variation on the existing trip description - a moderate 7-mile with 2300 feet of gain with some off-trail scrambling over rocks to reach the summit of Curley Peak. This hike is primarily for members of the Pikes Peak and El Pueblo groups. Others will be wait-listed and assigned a spot, if available, the week prior to the hike.

If the trail is clear of snow we may be sharing it with motorized dirt bikes. Have traction devices in case snow lingers on the trail.
The route is taken from "Best Southern Front Range Hikes" by Greg Long but is exploratory for the leader.
Hikers coming from the north will meet at 7:30 a.m. to form an (optional) carpool at the South Nevada Safeway (1920 South Nevada Avenue). We'll hit the highway by 7:45 to rendezvous in Canon City with anyone coming from Pueblo/Canon City around 9. The East Bear trailhead is around 10 miles outside of Canon City on County Road 143.
If the group is feeling energetic and we set up a car shuttle, we can descend on the Stultz Trail and make this a 13-miler. The two trailheads are only couple miles apart on the same road.
Required Equipment
Traction may be necessary if spring snow lingers.
