This loop route to Deer Mountain in Rocky Mountain National Park, starting from the North Deer Mountain Trailhead, offers a moderate yet scenic hike through diverse landscapes. The trail ascends gradually through pine forests and open meadows, providing stunning views of the surrounding peaks and valleys. After reaching the summit with its panoramic vistas, the descent completes the loop, allowing us to experience the varied terrain and abundant wildlife of this picturesque area.

Carpool Place & Time: Meet at JAX West Loveland lot (SE corner) at 6:30 AM, and depart at 6:45 AM (JAX Loveland West Outdoor Gear, Farm & Ranch - Google Maps)

We'll carpool to Parking along Old Ranger Drive (Estes Park) (40°22'35.1"N 105°32'32.7"W - Google Maps) (There is very limited parking at this location.)

Starting from the North Deer Mountain Trailhead, the hike to the summit of Deer Mountain via Deer Ridge is an amazing adventure in Rocky Mountain National Park. The ascent begins with a gentle climb through lush pine forests and vibrant wildflower meadows, gradually revealing expansive views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. As the trail winds upward, hikers traverse the scenic Deer Ridge, where panoramic vistas of the Continental Divide and Estes Park unfold. Reaching the summit of Deer Mountain, at 10,013 feet, offers breathtaking 360-degree views, making the effort worthwhile. The descent follows the Deer Mountain Trail, which provides a pleasant and varied return journey, showcasing the diverse flora and fauna of the park. This hike combines moderate challenge with spectacular scenery, perfect for those seeking a rewarding outdoor experience. We'll stop at/near the summit for lunch/snack.
