This is a counterclockwise loop hike from the Palmer Lake Reservoir Trailhead, going over the summits of three peaks: Chautauqua Mountain, Mt. Herman, and Raspberry Mountain, with some of the hike going through Limbaugh Canyon. We will also take a small side trip to a rock formation that is mistakenly called "Balanced Rock" on Google Earth.
Besides having some nice views of some of the large rock formations in that part of the Rampart Range, we will be rewarded with some great views of northern El Paso county from Mt Herman, and some nice views of Palmer Lake and southern Douglas County as well on this hike.
This hike is on trails, including some social trails. Some sections are a little steep.
Meet at 7:00AM in the Cabelas parking lot at Ridgegate and I-25 in Lone Tree, specifically in the northwest section of the parking lot near the Cabela's, so we can leave no later than 7:15AM. Here is a Google Maps link to the meeting place: https://goo.gl/maps/wWCXBUwvW7D5SDSg6
The Trailhead is the Palmer Lake Reservoir Trailhead in Palmer Lake. Here’s a Google Maps link to it: https://goo.gl/maps/oiNgeyfXY96m6QUm9 There are no toilets at the trailhead. There is a $5 per car parking fee at the trailhead.
