Hiking – Brainard Lake Rec Area - Mitchell Lake TH - Blue Lake
RMOTHG MEMBERS ONLY - Blue Lake is a scenic, above treeline lake in the Indian Peaks Wilderness. Along the way we will pass Mitchell Lake, a scenic creek, a few ponds that we could see moose from when I hiked this trail in July, pretty krummholz, and at the top we will enjoy our lunch with a lakeside view of Mount Toll towering above us!!! The trail is fairly rocky, and there is one steep section, we will take our time hiking down this on our return. Please read my Leader's Notes below for more logistical information!!!

I will be maintaining a casual pace the entire hike. This is a fairly busy trail and I will keep the group together at all times so that we can all get over at the same time to let other hikers pass us (kind of like synchronized swimmers, but we're hikers)!!!
We will only be taking 3 cars (that is all the IPW Parking Permits we have), you must be willing to carpool. If you want to meet us at the Brainard Lake Winter Parking Area and carpool from there that is a possibility. If you live in the northern metro area or Boulder and there are enough people interested in carpooling we can try and get a carpool together for you.
I can only take active RMOTHG members. If you are wanting to try our section out as a perspective member, please contact me and if there is room Tuesday the 5th, I will allow you to sign up.
There may be an after hike social in Nederland or Golden if there is time after our hike.
Required Equipment
Trekking Poles (highly recommended), at least 2 Liters of Water, Snacks, Lunch, Wind/Rain Gear, a Warm Layer, Sunscreen, Bug Repellant, 1st Aid Kit, the rest of the 10 Essentials!!!
