This is a well-established trail through the foothills west of Colorado Highway 115. Details for potential car-pooling will follow.

Plan for snow and ice on the trail, especially in the shady spots. We'll detour off the main trail into a side canyon where there are some historical ruins and up to a high point where we can look south toward the Sangres and Spanish Peaks.

Dogs are not allowed in Aiken Canyon so no, this is not a dog-friendly hike.

Optional meet up for coffee/lunch somewhere on the south end of Colorado Springs after the hike.

Bring traction devices for sure and hiking poles, if you use them. You may want binoculars for better views of wildlife and distant mountains. Pack a thermos with the warm beverage of your choice. A pad for sitting on snow is also a good idea.
