CMC members: come visit the memorable Årestua hut on Guinn mountain and (re)familiarize yourself with the place by helping with the annual season preparation. After a short hike, the primary activity is wood cutting, with some other various activities to prepare, repair, or improve the hut. (Although not required to attend, please let me know if you can bring a chainsaw or have chainsaw experience.)

On woodcutting day, we arrived in Rollinsville at 7:45 to meet up and leave at 8:08 am. We dropped extra vehicles at the East Portal trailhead (which will become the new meeting place for future events). We then arrived at Yankee Doodle lake at 9:55. This year, the group carried in only tools and chainsaws for the day. I arrived at the hut at 10:59. This year the saw horses again got set up south of the hut on the meadow, several splitting stations were SW of the hut in the woods. At the start, additional small limbs were removed from nearby trees for fire mitigation in August - these got piled into 3 slash piles in the nearest meadow north of the hut. Emily brought a gas stove plus bratwurst and hot dogs to serve lunch snacks. Roughly 26 total helpers, including sawyers (at least 4). This year featured more chainsaws (3 gas plus 3 electric) and we did not open the hut during the day. Small trees were collected from NW of the hut for fire prevention; larger trees were collected NE of the outhouse. Wood cutting wrapped up around 2:30 pm. The wood pile was just under full, with several log sections to jump start next time. Several people joined for a beverage at Yankee Doodle after woodcutting. While it was sunny and warmer than average through the day, it did start to cloud over as we drove back down Rollins Pass road.
Meet adjacent to Howlin Wind Brewing & Blending in Rollinsville (located at 51 Main St., or near N39.91721 W105.50200 on your gps) at 7:45am to carpool up to Yankee Doodle lake. I plan to arrange car pooling at the meet-up - please bring a high clearance vehicle, if you own. (I'm also expecting some will join at the hut too, by hiking in the longer trail access route or an overnight stay).
Required Equipment
Bring: work boots/shoes, work gloves, snacks/lunch, and DRINKING WATER. We typically arrive at the hut at 10:30 am and wrap at between 3-4pm to be back in Rollinsville 5-6 pm.
