We will meet at the Wadsworth and Hampden Park n Ride at 12:30pm to arrange carpools and leave by 12:45.
We will have two campsites, each of which can have a maximum of 2 cars. Ideally, we will have two people per car to allow room for camping and hiking gear. If possible, we’ll match people w/o dogs with people who have one, so we only have one dog per car.
This campground has vault toilets. There is a water pump, but I usually also bring my own drinking water in case it is not working.
Weather permitting, we will plan to hike about 4 miles (out and back) on the West Jefferson Trail after we set up camp on Monday. Tuesday we will hike south along the Colorado Trail 4-5 miles out and back. Wednesday, after we break camp, we can hike the Jefferson Lake Loop (about 3 miles). All trails start at about 10,000 ft, are well shaded, have gradual slopes, and have some rocky portions. The Loop trail may have a marshy section, depending on recent rainfall.
Fees: The campsite fee is $6 per person (total), payable to the leader. There may be an additional $9 ($5 if you have a golden eagle national park pass or similar) fee per car, per day, payable at the entry gate. This fee MIGHT be waived for campers, but the website is unclear. It is about 120 miles round trip from the park n ride to the campground, or $43 per car for gas.
Dogs must be on a leash and under your control at all times.
Required Equipment
Ten essentials, all camping gear, food for six meals (1 Mon, 3 Tuesday, 2 Wednesday). It would be nice to bring something to share Tuesday evening. We may be able to have campfires (in fire pits) if fire danger is low and firewood is for sale at camp host.
I will contact everyone on the roster after registration closes to see if we can plan to share some items like cookstoves and cooler space. Stay tuned.
