BPX Trip – BPX 3-Day: Lost Park from Rolling Creek TH
This trip is for BPX members only. Let's do a rigorous, early season backpacking loop! This trip is more like a 2.5 day, starting Friday evening and ending Sunday afternoon. This 25 mile loop in the northern part of Lost Creek Wilderness is a lovely, usually uncrowded hike showcasing forest, meadows, beaver dams, rushing creeks, and one big climb to start the day Saturday.

Join me on this fun loop designed for folks with a M-F job who want to jam a whole weekend of backpacking in!
I did this loop a few years ago; it works well as a Friday night start, with 2 miles on Day 1, then some big days over the next 2. If you click through to the full Route & Place info below, you can read about the loop. We will be doing the Longer Day 2/Shorter Day 3 option, which should get us back to our homes at a decent time Sunday afternoon/evening. But, it means Saturday is a big day at 14 miles!
This hike is rated Challenging due to the mileage, gain, and the pace in combo with those. 2 mph is our goal, which is on the fast side of moderate hiking with a full pack. This time of year, I myself am getting back into backpacking shape, so I definitely have flexibility on pace, but want to ensure everyone is a good fit overall for the difficulty here.
Leader permission: To sign up, you need my permission. In the bar at right on this page, click "Request Leader's Permission" and answer these questions:
- 3 hikes you've done in the last 2 months, with mileage and elevation gain
- describe 3 backpacking trips you've done in the last 2 years, with mileage
- do you know your pace with a full pack? what is it usually?
- have you backpacked 10+ mile days in recent times?
If you haven't been hiking much recently, or have not backpacked 10+ mile days, I would recommend you find another trip on the BPX calendar. Thanks!
Considerations: Early June is in this area is usually snow-free, but there could be lingering snow and MUD. We may also face rain and chilly temps. We will hike rain or shine, unless the weather looks like 72 straight hours of downpour. Please be prepared for all possibilities, and be ready for that big day.
Friday night plan: We'll carpool and reach the trailhead around 5:45 pm and be hiking at 6. The sun doesn't set til 8:30 in June, so ideally we'll be reaching the campsite around 7 pm with lingering light for setup and dinner. Make sure you have a headlamp, in case we're setting up in the dark.
