This is a snowshoe trip from Hollowell Park in RMNP to Lake Bierstadt. We will plan on taking the trail up to Bierstadt and then we will do an off-trail descent of about a half mile on our way back to the trailhead. This route is a different route from what most people use to get to Bierstadt. It is much less traveled than the other routes and provides a degree of solitude and a chance to see wildlife (especially moose).
The off-trail component of the trip is not particularly difficult but if you have never snowshoed before and/or are overly concerned about falling in the snow this might not be the trip for you.
If you have any concerns or questions about the trip, feel free to contact the trip leader to get more information. Despite the warnings above, this is always a fun trip that everyone enjoys as it gives you an opportunity to go snowshoeing through fresh snow.
After the trip we will stop in Estes Park for some post snowshoe refreshments.
Required Equipment
Snowshoes are a must as we will be going off-trail. Trekking poles and gaiters would be very nice to have.
Remember to bring your compass as we will practice some back-country navigation skills during the off-trail descent.
