Beginner snowshoe (maybe a snow hike if little snow) along the Colorado Trail west from Kenosha pass to Deadman Gulch. 8.5 miles planned round trip.

  • Mileage: 6.2 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 1,500 ft
  • High Point Elevation: 10,398 ft
  • Pace: 1.5-2.0 mph

This is a beginner snowshoe hike, which may be a just a winter hike if snow levels are low. We will travel as a group with a casual pace (no speedsters) and breaks as needed to adjust clothing, gear, enjoy the view, take pictures, and enjoy the winter outdoors.

No pets.

The distance to Deadman Gulch is 4.25 miles - and that is our goal - but the group will decide if we need to turn around earlier. There is a gain of 835 feet and a loss of 669 ft getting to our planned turn around point. And then the opposite heading back. Trail conditions, current weather, and group spirits will guide our decision making.

We will travel as a group while observing the 7 principles of Leave No Trace :

  • Plan ahead and prepare.
  • Travel and camp on durable surfaces.
  • Dispose of waste properly.
  • Leave what you find.
  • Minimize campfire impacts (be careful with fire).
  • Respect wildlife.
  • Be considerate of other visitors.
