Trip
Basic Snowshoe – Kenosha Pass
Snowshoe ~5 miles roundtrip on the Colorado Trail, heading southeast from Kenosha Pass. This is a fairly easy, rolling route that will end on a high point, passing through aspen groves with views over Jefferson Valley and the mountains to the south and west. This trip is exploratory for the leader (have not done this route before), so be open to route finding and more map checks than usual-- a good exercise for everyone!

Moderate pace, occasional breaks, social hike.
I will update weather and trail conditions over email in the days before the hike. This might be a spike walk more than a snowshoe; I will let you know as we get closer.
No avy risk on this trail. The drive is paved and maintained the whole way, so we will hike snow or shine unless driving conditions are really bad, in which case I'll cancel.
I haven't done this trail in winter before, so be prepared to explore it with me! This means we'll check maps and GPS more frequently, and might stop to discuss landmarks and other nav elements as we go. It should be a packed trail, but you never know - we could be breaking trail in powder or walking on ice patches over the trail.
There is a high point at mile 2.4, which is where I intend to turn around, but if we see an interesting vantage point for a break in that vicinity, we might go a little farther.
Option to stop for lunch at Snowpack Taproom in Conifer on the return drive.
Park at Kenosha Pass east, right on the roadside of 285. Walk into trail system from road, then southeast on the Colorado Trail. Continue for about 2.2 miles from the campground bathroom, to a high point of 10.4K feet. Find a good breaking spot, break for snacks and pics, turn around and return the way you came.
Meetup at a park n ride off 285 at 7 am. I will email attendees specifics. We will carpool from here.
Plan to be at Kenosha Pass roadside parking on the east side at 8 am.
