Basic Snowshoe – Caribou Ranch Open Space
We'll meet at the park and ride in Nederland then go up in search of snow! This is a family friendly snow-play day with snowshoes and little agenda. We will look for tracks, play in the snow and try out snow shoes at a very slow pace!

Let's meet at the Nederland Park and Ride to assess snow day of.
We will meet at 9:30 a.m. then head up to Caribou (or nearby snow locale).
We plan to play for an hour or so then head back to town.
This is not a regular snowshoe/hiking trip with a traveling agenda or pace.We will be playing in the snow, trying out snowshoes, looking for tracks, and generally having fun in the snow!
This is a trip for families! I suggest 5 and up dressed to play in the snow. As if you were sledding or skiing. If you have snowshoes bring them. I will provide a variety of sizes to try.
Required Equipment
If you have snowshoes that fit you please bring them.
If you are familiar with our ten essentials please bring them. This is a short outing, but you should have a backpack that is comfortable and can hold your essentials for yourself and kiddos with you (unless they have their own pack!).
You will certainly need the following in your pack:
- Layers (it will be chilly winter weather (though quite possibly sunny)
- Sunscreen
- Snacks
- Water, water, water (or a thermos of warm tea that can fit in your pack).
Additional 10 essentials I will have and you might consider:
- knife / multi-tool
- a way to start fire
- emergency shelter
- maps / navigation
- first aid
- headlamp
I intend to be head back to Nederland for lunch but bring as heavy a "snack" as you want.
