Ice Lakes Basin Trailhead near Silverton CO at 9am

MOVING THIS HIKE TO 1st WEEKEND OF OCTOBER

YOU MUST ASK FOR MY PERMISSION TO SIGN UP FOR THIS, OTHERWISE YOU WILL BE REMOVED FROM THE ROSTER.

MUST HAVE SCRAMBLING, OFF-TRAIL EXPERIENCE!

This is a hike in a stunningly beautiful area, the Ice Lakes basin. We will take this unconventional side to go up to Golden Horn mountain (13.7k) and on to Vermillion peak, one of the highest 13ers in Colorado.

This is a 2 day hike; we'll hike into Ice Lakes basin with our tents, maybe 4 miles in, set up camp and do the peaks on the 2nd day.

Day 1: Nice trail up to camp, about 4 miles in. We'll try to take it really slow because it's SO GORGEOUS there.

Day 2: Early to rise, head up to the peaks. This day is entirely off trail, scrambling and scree hopping. This is the San Juans, so, very loose rocks. Helmets are mandatory! After we get down, disassemble tents, back to our cars. Think long day.. we'll be tired; I expect we'll want to stay in a motel somewhere in Silverton/Ouray/Durango.

THIS TRIP IS VERY WEATHER-DEPENDENT.
