Monarch Pass

  • Sat, Mar 2, 2024
  • Boulder
  • Backcountry Skiing/Splitboarding
  • Adults
  • Moderate
  • Mileage: 2.5 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 800 ft

An AIARE1 certification is required of all participants.

Practice using your ski gear before coming on this trip. Be prepared to ski terrain up to 30 degrees in slope angle and work on your transitions so others are not waiting and getting cold. You should be very comfortable with skiing trees at a ski resort for this trip.

Typically there are cornices at the top of the bowls and there is avalanche danger which is classified as level 3 on the Canadian ATES scale so we will be doing a beacon check at the base of the trail. Make sure your batteries have at least 40% life remaining.

Monarch Crest Cafeteria (top of Monarch Pass on US50) at 8:30am.

The skin track starts from there.

It's about 2.5 miles and 800' of uphill/downhill per lap (we can several laps if people want!)

We will be skiing an area called "The Perfect Trees" (or "Perfectly Spaced Trees"), which is a ridge across from Monarch Mountain Ski area. More details re route TBD.
