Backcountry Skiing/Splitboarding – Cameron Pass

This will be a trip on mellow terrain in the Cameron Pass area suitable for those newer to backcountry skiing or looking for a casual day out. The exact route will be determined a few days before the trip based on the weather forecast, anticipated avalanche ratings, and experience of the participants. Possible destinations include Montgomery Pass or Zipper Trees over Zimmerman Lake. This will be a Leader-in-Training Trip for Jean Peccoud.

This trip is intended for skiers on alpine touring gear, please review the list in the Required Equipment tab below.  We plan to climb and descend slopes less than 25 degrees that are not in avalanche terrain.  Trip participants are not required to have taken an AIARE 1 avalanche course, but should bring an avalanche beacon, shovel, probe and know how to use them.  We have a few sets of this equipment to loan, contact the trip leaders if you are interested.

Participants should be able to confidently ski blue slopes at ski resorts, and be able to transition from climbing to descending mode efficiently in the backcountry. The trip leaders can provide recommendations for renting backcountry ski equipment.
