Woolly Mammoth P&R 06:45, Section AA if car pooling; otherwise, meet at Berthoud Pass Summit parking lot ready to skin at 08:00; or if we go Current Creek, be at Current Creek TH ready to skin at 08:00. We'll dial in our one of our two choices night before after looking at the weather and avy forecasts.
This will be an easy day of touring in low angle terrain. Option 1 will be to start from the forest service warm up hut and ascend East Meadows or West Meadows. Choice will depending on snowpack and snow conditions. Option 2 will be Current Creek. We will ascend along the typical route near the creek bed and descend through the low angle trees before reaching the higher angle terrain.
All participants are expected to have completed AIARE Level 1 or equivalent or ATA if we have sufficient numbers with AIARE. We'll be following the AIARE framework throughout the day. This is always a great tool to help mitigate the risk involved with traveling with a new group. Everyone will be expected to participate in discussions about terrain choice, hazard analysis, etc.
