Backcountry Nordic Skiing – Zimmerman Lake to Meadows Trail

We will NOT go to Meadows trail as indicated by the confusing Route/Place title. This is an out-and-back BCN ski trip starting at Zimmerman trailhead and skiing up the slopes of Iron Mountain. Trailbreakers needed!

  • Mileage: 7.5 mi

We will meet at the northside Fort Collins King Sooper at 6:30AM and carpool to Cameron pass from there.

As noted in the trip summary, we will NOT go to Meadows trail as indicated by the Route/Place title which was created for the Zimmerman trailhead. The R/P title needs to be fixed but I would rather not wait for this process. This trip will start at the busy Zimmerman lake trailhead and ski on-trail to the east side of Zimmerman lake heading in a southeast direction from there where everyone is expected to help break trail. Make sure your cardio is up to snuff. Our destination is a broad saddle on Iron mountain and peak 11,426.

This route is via lower angle slopes (25 degree) with simple terrain features with level 2 (moderately hazardous) avalanche terrain as measured using the Canadian ATES system. All participants are expected to bring avy gear and be knowledgeable on how to use it however an AIRE1 certification is not needed as a trip participant. We will do a beacon check at the parking lot. Make sure you have at least 40% remaining battery life.
