Trip
Backcountry Nordic Skiing – Zimmerman Lake to Meadows Trail
To register for this trip email the trip leader at fccmcguy@gmail.com (don't click the register button) We will leave a car at the Meadows Trailhead and drive the group to the Zimmerman Trailhead. We will go up the hill to Zimmerman Lake, around the lake then down the Meadows Trail. This trip is up and down so I DO NOT recommend using AT skis that do not have "fish scales". Even if you have "fish scales" I STRONGLY recommend that you bring skins (kicker are ok), because the Zimmerman trail is uphill and can be pretty icy (I always put them on because I use less energy going uphill with them). Note the Meadows Trail "can" be done using "skinny skis", but it does makes some twists and turns going downhill so it is much easier if you have slightly wider/shaped skis with metal edges. On the Meadows Trail close to Long Draw Road there is an opportunity to do a couple of relatively easy powder runs down through trees (the slope is less than 20 deg and the trees are not dense). IF, you plan to do powder/tree runs you MUST bring a helmet, note the powder runs are short so you do not have to do them ...... but they ARE lots of fun.
