Take note of the length of the ski tour (~8 miles). Make sure you are confident to ski that distance.
We will meet at the Peaks Trailhead in Breckenridge at 8:30am. Since this is a one-way ski tour, you have some choices on transportation.
- Recommended: You can park at the Miner's Creek Trailhead [Google Maps link]. This is the endpoint of the ski tour. If you park here, you will have to walk 1/4 mile to the Community Center bus stop, where you can catch the 7:37 bus to Breckenridge. This will get you to the Breckenridge transfer station at 8:05am, where you can ride the Gondola to Peak 7. From there, it is another short walk to the Peaks Trailhead. Note: Arrive early to make sure you are on time for the 7:37 bus. Keep in mind that this bus is likely to be crowded and it may be standing-room only.
- You can try to park at the Peaks Trailhead [Google Maps link]. There is limited parking, but since we are starting early, you should be able to get a spot. If you arrive and there is no place to park, you will have limited options and may have to miss the trip or pay expensive ski resort parking rates. Note: If you choose this option, you will have to take the bus & gondola back to your car.
- You can park at any skier parking in Breckenridge and ride the bus and/or gondola to Peak 7. From Peak 7 it is a short walk to the Peaks Trailhead.
If people would like to car pool / shuttle, we can arrange having one car dropped off at Miner's Creek, and then another car drives skiers to Peaks Trailhead. Contact Trip Leader if you are interested in shuttling.
Required Equipment
Wide fish-scale Nordic skis with metal edges are recommended. Kicker skins are recommended, but you may not need them, depending on the snow conditions. Please, no skinny or wax-only skis.
AT skis or tele skis are also fine (with skins). They will likely not be as efficient as Nordic skis, until the descent at the end. Skins will stay on most of the tour, until the descent at the end.
