  • Mileage: 7.5

  • High Point Elevation: 10,200 ft

The meeting time and place will be communicated a few days before the trip, but expect to leave northern Fort Collins about 7 am for the roughly 100 minute drive to the TH.

*** Note this a back country nordic (ski trip) over rolling terrain, best done on wider nordic-style skis with metal edges, see the Required Gear section for a full list of what you should bring.  This trip is not well suited for AT, splitboard, or heavy tele gear.  Contact the Trip Leader with any questions. ***

This area often sees more snow than similar elevations in our local NoCo mountains and is usually reliable for a fun day of BCN skiing.  Our point-to-point route has about 700 feet of climbing and 1900 feet of descent.  The route is mostly moderate with BCN gear and good conditions, but can be somewhat challenging at times.  You should also have the ability to herring-bone or side step up short steeper sections.  If you want to bring your long skinny XC skis, it could be quite challenging and you should contact the Trip Leader before signing up.

After leaving a vehicle at the Corner Mountain TH, we will drive past the Snowy Range Ski resort and start our trip at the Green Rock TH, which is reserved for non-motorized use.  We will begin with the scenic Libby Creek loop over rolling terrain and then ski down the Barber Creek trail to the Corner Mountain area.  Corner Mountain has its own network of trails offering various exit options to the TH where our shuttle car will be parked.

The trip can be done entirely on-trail with several sporty downhill sections, but there are a few areas where short detours provide access to some fun off-trail powder play, and we will take advantage of these if conditions are right.  Depending on the trail conditions, climbing skins are often needed for some of the uphill, you should bring them (they don't need to be full-length; kicker skins aka half-skins are fine).
