Backcountry Nordic Skiing – Brainard Lake Rec Area - Mitchell Lake

7:30 am Plainview Rd is about 1.5 miles west of Hwy 93 on Hwy 72.  Arrange carpools as needed.

8:15 am Gateway Parking area/Trailhead. Folks coming from Boulder area can arrange carpools accordingly. 

8:30 Begin ski

There is a fee for parking, carpools encouraged.  However, according to forest service representative and website an annual pass waives the fee.

This tour can be done as an out and back or we can do some of the other trails in the area on the return. Snow conditions will dictate the actual route. GPX will be provided with pre-trip email 2 days before the trip. Be prepared to be flexible. 

Please consider the following before registering:

• Are you comfortable on your skis in variable terrain including thin snow coverage, sort of tight tress at times and rocks?
• Can you maintain approximately a 2.5 mile-per-hour pace if conditions allow?

If you cannot answer yes to the considerations then this is not likely an appropriate trip for you.
