Backcountry Nordic Skiing – Backcountry Nordic Skiing Brainard Lake

Fresh, Deep Spring snow forecast. Beautiful ski through the woods with vistas of Indian Peaks from Brainard Lake and Left Hand Reservoir. Fast descent down LHR road, but new snow will make it fun and safer.

The forecast is for >12" of snow by Saturday morning.  Although we are starting late(ish), most likely will break trail on some sections.  The Waldrop and Little Raven trails offer an idyllic ski through the woods.  We will take a break for fabulous views of the Indian Peaks at both Brainard Lake and Left Hand Reservoir.

Descent options are a fast and fun descent down LHR road, or a longer, but stunning descent back down LR to the CMC ski trail.  This route adds miles and smiles, whereas LHR Road is all smiles if comfortable with the descent.  It is a safe place to practice though.

I plan to have a co-lead(s) and so opportunity for diversity of pace levels, but, this is not a beginner ski, particularly the descent portions and the overall distance.

8:00a Brainard Lake Winter Gateway warming hut (the building to the left of the outhouses)
7:00a Carpool Boulder Public Health Buildings Broadway and Iris.  Enter parking lot from Broadway just North of Iris.
