Ascending Hikes Section (AHS) - Winter Edition: This point-to-point snowshoe hike will take us from the Brainard Lake winter parking area to the South Sourdough TH along the Sourdough Trail. We'll get to experience the fun of descending ~1200 ft along a trail that meanders through the forest.

Carpool Place & Time: Meet at US 36 & McCaslin PnR - SOUTH at 7:15AM, for a 7:30AM departure (US 36 and McCaslin Blvd Park and Ride - South - Google Maps)

This is a car shuttle (point-to-point) hike.

We'll then carpool to the South Sourdough TH Parking Lot, leave cars, then carpool to BLRA Winter Parking Lot (South Sourdough Trailhead - Google Maps)

This point-to-point snowshoe hike from the Brainard Lake winter parking lot along the Sourdough Trail South offers a captivating adventure through the serene winter wonderland of Colorado's Front Range. As snow blankets the landscape, the trail meanders amidst towering pine trees and frozen streams, presenting a picturesque tableau of pristine white scenery. With each step, the crisp air invigorates, and the tranquility of the wilderness envelops the soul. Along the way, glimpses of wildlife tracks in the snow add an element of mystery, while the occasional glimpse of distant mountain peaks serves as a reminder of the grandeur of nature. We will find a comfortable spot for lunch/snack. Our pace will be comfortable for all participants. Overall ~6 miles and ~1200 ft of elevation loss. (Sourdough Trail - South - CalTopo)

The Colorado Mountain Club's Ascending Hike Section (AHS) provides an opportunity to make new friends and explore new places in Colorado's backcountry, while increasing your personal hiking speed, strength, and stamina. The section is administered by CMC volunteers. There is no cost, fee, or scheduling commitment. There are no dues or elections. Open to all CMC members. To join the section, contact the CMC office.
