Old Baldy via Rainbow Lakes Trail

  • Difficult
  • Difficult
  • Mileage: 11.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 2,800 ft
  • High Point Elevation: 13,028 ft
  • Pace: 1.5 mph with 1000' gain per hour

We will meet at  the Golden Gate Canyon Rd Parking at 5:15 am for a prompt 5:30 am departure. Golden Gate Canyon Road is located on the southwest corner of CO 93 and Golden Gate Canyon Road.  There will be not be a rest stop on the way to the trailhead.

This is a beautiful hike in a less-traveled area of the Indian Peaks Wilderness.  As we climb to Old Baldy, we'll have views of Arapahoe Glacier, and several lakes in the valley below that are not open to the public.  With the long distance and 13,000' elevation, this is a good training hike for those looking to climb 14ers.
