Ascending Hikes – Lory State Park - Arthur's Rock via East Ridge
This enlightening loop hike to Arthur's Rock in Lory State Park offers a mix of serene woodland paths along the Timber Trail and expansive views from the Westridge Trail. The initial ascent reveals sweeping vistas of Fort Collins and Horsetooth Reservoir, rewarding us with a sense of accomplishment at the summit. This is the first of the NoCo Hot Rocks Hat Trick Series (Arthur's Rock, Greyrock, and Horsetooth Rock).

This hike to Arthur's Rock in Lory State Park is a journey through nature's diverse beauty, where the rugged ascent opens into sweeping panoramas that seem to stretch to infinity. The climb is shaded by towering ponderosa pines, their scent mingling with the crisp mountain air, while rocky outcroppings peek through the trees, teasing the summit's grandeur. Upon reaching the top, we'll be greeted by breathtaking views of Fort Collins and the shimmering expanse of Horsetooth Reservoir far below. Our return winds along the Timber, Westridge, and Ward trails, feeling like a peaceful retreat, with the golden light filtering through the trees as the landscape shifts from alpine splendor to tranquil meadows. Each step seems to carry with it a deepened connection to the wild and a sense of quiet reflection. We'll stop along the West Ridge for lunch/snack. Our pace will be comfortable for all participants.
