Ascending Hikes – Eldorado Canyon State Park
This out-and-back hike along the Fowler and Rattlesnake Gulch Trails from the Fowler Trailhead takes us through Eldorado Canyon’s rugged terrain, showcasing towering cliffs and unique rock formations. This scenic out-and-back hike along the Fowler and Rattlesnake Gulch Trails from the Fowler Trailhead offers a rewarding blend of geological features, diverse landscapes, and amazing vistas into the Rockies. With a steady 1,400-foot elevation gain, the trail meanders through stands of ponderosa pines, skirts impressive cliff faces, and leads to an overlook with panoramic views of the Continental Divide and the sprawling landscape below. Along the Rattlesnake Gulch Trail, hikers can explore the historic Crag Hotel ruins—a fascinating glimpse into the area’s past—and stop to see the railroad line that connects Denver to Moab. This moderate hike is ideal for those seeking a peaceful escape with rewarding scenery, from the rugged Eldorado Canyon to sweeping mountain horizons. We'll find a comfortable stop for lunch/snack. The Colorado Mountain Club's Ascending Hike Section (AHS) provides an opportunity to make new friends and explore new places in Colorado's backcountry, while increasing your personal hiking speed, strength, and stamina.
