Beginning at the Fowler Trailhead, this invigorating figure eight loop hike leads us through the captivating landscape of Boulder’s Open Space, tracing a path along the foothills that unveils panoramic views of the stunning Flatirons. The trail’s natural flow takes us across gentle inclines and serene meadows, immersing in the Front Range’s wild beauty with glimpses of birds, animals, and native flora that dance in the breeze. For a unique detour, we can venture up the ridge to visit the historic railroad line that threads from Denver to Moab, revealing a hidden slice of the region’s transportation heritage. On this hike we'll experience both the well-traveled paths and secret corners of Boulder’s foothills, making for a memorable and dynamic outdoor adventure. We’ll find a comfortable spot for lunch/snack. Our pace will be determined by the strength, stamina, and endurance of the group. Overall ~8-10 miles and ~1200-1800 ft of elevation gain. The Colorado Mountain Club's Ascending Hike Section (AHS) provides an opportunity to make new friends and explore new places in Colorado's backcountry, while increasing your personal hiking speed, strength, and stamina.
