We will meet at the Target parking lot in Fort Collins. It's on the SW corner of College and Troutman. Please park in the NW corner of the parking lot. Please meet at 7:15am and we will leave promptly by 7:30am.
This trip is a CMC Northern Colorado Group listed trip. If you are a NOCO Group member, please shoot me an email and I will add you to the roster prior to official sign up date. Registration for all others will open on January 13.
This out and back snowshoe trip to Sandbeach Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park. We will pass through the diverse area of Wild Basin. As the trail climb, we will see stunning vistas of the surrounding mountains. Eventually, the path leads to Sandbeach Lake, an alpine gem just below treeline with a natural sandy beach. Per history of the area, John Wesley Powell camped near Sandbeach Lake before their ascent of Longs Peak in 1868. We'll find a comfortable spot near the lake for lunch. After our lunch w will retrace our track back to the trailhead.
Required Equipment
Snowshoes will be required for this trip. We could have windy conditions as we approach the lake, so wind gear is also recommended. Also, the weather and temperature can vary from the trailhead to the lake, so dressing in layers is advised. Remember to bring lunch, snacks, and water. I also enjoy a hot beverage.
