Meet at 8:00 am at the Forest Service Road 134 on Route 91. This is just south of Freemont Pass and is a large dirt parking lot on the right. With recent snow, this could be a snowy parking lot.
Directions on All Trails are accurate. The parking lot is 15 miles south of Copper Ski Resort.
Be ready to go at 8:15 am.
This is a challenging and steep trail. Snowshoes are required, and will help with traction and snowfall. We will climb at 700-800 feet per hour, depending on conditions and group. The grade eases as we get higher.
If you are questioning your ability, please feel free to call me at 978-460-1752, and be prepared to tell me about your recent snowshoe experiences.
We may encounter rare snowmobile traffic that generally heads to a private cabin, or off trail to other terrain. We will stay on Forest Service Road 134 to avoid tresspassing onto private land. Avalanche risk is minimal.
Views are great, looking down onto Climax Mine and surrounding peaks.
Descending is easy :-)
Required Equipment
Snowshoes are required. Poles with ski baskets will be helpful.
Bring your usual full winter layers and gear. Do not skimp on gear - I carry a full pack and I am old.
Bring a shovel to dig out of the parking lot. All hands on deck to make sure everyone exits the parking lot.
