8:15am -- Meet at The Fort, 19192 CO-8, Morrison, 80465 to organize carpools and depart for Abyss Lake Trailhead no later than 8:30am.
Pace is casual plus. We won't be setting any speed records, but we will plan to move at a steady pace with minimal breaks. We will go off trail in at least two locations to inspect snowpack and scout potential campsites.
Depending on weather, trail conditions, and the pace of the group, this hike may take up to six hours. Our goal will be to complete the hike and return to The Fort no later than sunset but, most likely, we'll complete the trip a bit earlier. If you have a late afternoon or early evening committment, do NOT sign up for this trip.
Bring snowshoes, spikes, gaiters, lunch, snacks, extra water, and appropriate layers for a variety of weather conditions.
Be prepared to tie your snowshoes to your pack as we may not need them at the beginning of our ascent. If you have never carried snowshoes on your pack before, here is good tutorial on how to do that. Practice doing this at home so that you are comfortable doing it on the trail.
Keep an eye out for a pre-trip email with additional details by no later than Wednesday 1/31.
