Your Colorado Mountain Club Board of Directors and leadership are excited to announce the sale of the American Mountaineering Center by Colorado Mountain Club and the American Alpine Club. For the past 30 years, we have been deeply honored to serve as stewards of this cherished space, a place where countless memories, stories, and the spirit of adventure have thrived. As we prepare to pass the torch to a new owner, we do so with respect for its history and optimism for the future.

While we can't share specifics about the new owners or the sale now, please know that this decision was made with the utmost care, guided by Colorado Mountain Club leadership and your Board of Directors. The new owners will share their vision for the building, and we trust they will be equally committed to preserving its legacy

With change comes opportunity, and while saying goodbye to the AMC is bittersweet, we are truly excited about what lies ahead for Colorado Mountain Club. This move marks the beginning of a new chapter — one that allows us to continue our mission in fresh, inspiring ways. We’re committed to finding a new home that reflects our deep roots and the vibrant community we've built over the years.

We’re proud of the partnership we’ve built with the American Alpine Club, and we have every confidence in their continued stewardship of the American Alpine Club Library, the CMC Archives, and the American Mountaineering Museum. If you’d like to learn more about the museum or archives, or just want to dive deeper into our community’s incredible history, please contact the AAC directly.

CMC’s heart and spirit have never been tied to a single building. Since our founding in 1912, we’ve called several places home, and each move has only strengthened our sense of community. We carry the memories, traditions, and friendships from the AMC with us as we step into this new adventure.

Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for your unwavering support during this time of transition. Your dedication to Colorado Mountain Club and our shared love of the outdoors has been the foundation of everything we do. If you have any questions, concerns, or just want to share your thoughts, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re in this together, and we’re ready for what’s next.

With gratitude,

This was no doubt a very hard decision and I have every confidence that you and your great team can successfully move the CMC to its next chapter. You’ve dealt with some amazingly challenging issues and as a Club member I’m so grateful for your leadership and dedication. - Rolf

When will CMC move out and where will a new physical location be?

Mixed feelings about this, though there is likely so much about this decision by both AAC and CMC I don't know. Lots of incredible memories at AMC and Golden that I cherish in my heart. Will continue to support both and await the next chapter.
