Afterschool Program
Join Colorado Mountain Club every Thursday after school and learn about the plants, animals, environments, and weather that makes Colorado unique! Our instructors will bring hands on activities to Maple Grove each week to teach about the natural world. Learn about our local wildlife while looking at skulls, bones, and pelts. Discover the cause of local weather patterns and even create your own lighting using a Van De Graff generator! Discover what makes Colorado unique and add some fun and adventure to you after school routine!

This program is tailored for youth ages 6-12. In this course, youth will explore a different Hands on Nature Science/Ecology Lesson every Thursday for 7 weeks. Youth will experience this all in a small, supportive environment facilitated by highly skilled instructors and we provide gear, educational materials, and a snack.
- Age: For youth 6-12 years old.
- Dates: October 31 to December 19, Thursdays 3:35pm-4:30PM
- 10/31/24 (Week 1): Colorado Mammals
- 11/7/24 (Week 2): Clouds and Lighting
- 11/14/24 (Week 3): Mountain Weather
- 11/21/24 (Week 4): Avalanches and Snow Science
- 11/28- NO CLASS
- 12/5/24 (Week 5): Colorado Rocks! Local Geology
- 12/12/24(Week 6): Water Sheds
- 12/19/24 (Week 7): Colorado Birds
Location: This program takes place at maple grove elementary. Parent Pick up will be at 4:30pm from the "Hug & Go Loop" located in front of Maple Grove Elementary.. (3085 Alkire St, Golden, CO 804011)

- This program takes place Afterschool on campus at Maple Grove Elementary. Parents will pick up students from Maple Grove each week at 4:30pm
- Course fees include: Materials, building use, instruction, any gear provided, snacks, quality instruction.
Location/Pick-up Details
Each week the CMC Instructors will meet your youth at the Maple Grove Elementary campus outdoor Classroom for programming. Students will brought to the classroom every Thursday at the end of the school day. The instructors will run programming until 4:30pm. Pick up will be at 4:30pm from the "Hug & Go Loop" located in front of Maple Grove Elementary.. (3085 Alkire St, Golden, CO 804011)
- Afterschool: Eco Explorers begins at Maple Grove: 2:35pm
- Parent pick-up at Maple Grove Elementary: 4:30pm
Registration instructions:
If you would like to register your student, and you are not a CMC member, you will need to make a FREE guest membership account here. Once this guest membership is made for the adult (with the adults email) you will add your youth to your account. Each participant will need to fill out a Youth Form. Only fill out the required items on the youth form. Health forms are required to submit this youth form but NOT to participate in afterschool programs. You can upload health forms if you have them or you can upload a blank placeholder document. Once this Youth Form is filled out, you can complete registration through this page.

Registration Minimum:
This course needs 7 registrants to run the program. If there are less than 7 registrants by October 18th, the course may be canceled and the registrants will receive a full refund.
This program has no scheduled activities.
CMC Will Provide the Following:
- Safety Equipment
- Educational Curriculum
- Snacks
Participant Packing List:
If you are unable to bring any of the items below, please let us know. CMC does have a few extra items that we are happy to loan out.
- Clothes (comfortable clothing):
o Loose fitting pants or shorts
o T-shirts and a long sleeve shirt
o Closed-toe shoes
o Sweater and/or warm layer
o Jacket
o Brimmed hat
o Sunglasses - Sunscreen and lip balm (must be labeled with child's name)
- Water bottle (at least 1 liter)
- Snacks
- Personal medications (inhaler, EPI pen, etc.) – please have all containers and
bottles labeled and also listed on the medical form
**Cell phones, gaming devices, tablets, and iPods are NOT allowed on this program.
